Pvt. Michael Lee Sparling

Pvt. Michael Lee Sparling was born April 29, 1989 in Sacramento, CA. He passed away unexpectedly, while training at Fort Bliss, Texas on June 1, 2011. Michael attended OSUT at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon completion of OSUT, he reported to C Troop, 1st Squadron 13th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas, where he was assigned as an Infantry Scout. Michael’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Michael was a proud soldier who loved serving his country. He was a selfless person who was always there for family and friends. He was loved very much and will be greatly missed by all. Michael is survived by his loving parents, Michael and Leanne Sparling, brother’s Cody and Christopher, and sister Stephanie, of Rio Linda, California; Grandparents, Lee Collier, Carol and Cliff Hutchings, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Michael’s Life was held on Thursday, June 9th at 3:00 pm, at Valley Springs Presbyterian Church, 2401 Olympus Drive, Roseville, California. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to Folds of Honor Foundation (www.foldsofhonor.org), Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), or Valley Springs Presbyterian Church (www.valleysprings.org).
