Joseph “Joe” Bacsko Jr., 64, the cheerful, optimistic man who devoted his life trying to make every person’s life around him better, passed away peacefully after a long illness on January 18, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home in Sacramento.
Joe dedicated his life giving back to his country, first as a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and then as a servant of the California state government. He had a distinguished 23 year career in the Air Force, spanning from the Vietnam War through his retirement in 1991. His first assignment was in 1967 in Okinawa, Japan, where he met and married the love of his life, Julia. Joe spent his career in personnel support with various assignments throughout bases located overseas and the United States. After he retired from the Air Force, Joe went to work for the state of California.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Julia; two daughters, Maj. Katherina and her husband Col. Matthew Donovan of Fairfax Station, Virginia; Kristina Carlisle of Sacramento; and son Joseph Bacsko and his wife Darcy of Sacramento; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 11 AM at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery-Sacramento in Dixon, California.
