Marjorie Evelyn Perkin

Born :June 7, 1920

Entered into Rest: March 31, 2012

Passed March 31, 2012, at the beautiful age of 91-years old. She is survived by her children: Linda, Sharon, John, and Adele; her Sister Della and Brother John; plus 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was the third-oldest child of Hazel and Ellis and was raised in Spearfish, South Dakota, along with six siblings. She earned a Teacher’s Credential after High School and taught up to 8th Grade in a one-room schoolhouse. When the Second World War started, Marjorie, Della, and a girlfriend moved to San Diego, CA, and worked as “Rosie the Riveter” airplane assemblers. There they all met their future husbands. After marrying Harold Perkin, Marjorie stayed in San Diego where she dedicated herself to raising her four children. She also made time for volunteer work with the PTA and Girl Scouts.

In her late 50’s, Marjorie joined a coed Senior League Softball team and earned the respect and appreciation of her peers for playing throughout her cancer treatments and continuing with them for 10-years. She also took up painting: first in oils and then in watercolors. Most of her themes were outdoor scenes which she thoroughly loved. In 2009, Marjorie and her son moved to Rocklin, CA, to live with her daughter. Marjorie’s zest for walking, hiking, and all things out-of-doors was always in her heart. She seldom returned from a walk without a leaf or two in her hands – treasures too beautiful to leave.

As a remembrance: in lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity. A private memorial celebration will be held with her children and close family.
